Humanistic Jews of Tampa Bay

Celebrating our shared Jewish culture and heritage through the lens of our shared humanity. No deities required!

History

Humanistic Judaism, as a movement, was founded by Rabbi Sherwin Wine in 1969. His Detroit congregation was the pilot program for celebrating Jewish life while foregoing appeals for divine intervention; they put their faith in human reason and human power as the best vehicles for improving the world. These ideas quickly spread on a global scale.

The Humanistic Jews of Tampa Bay are a relatively new group of Jewish and non-Jewish humans who have gathered together to support each other and explore the world around us. Once upon a time, we regularly met at Temple Beth-El in St. Petersburg, although since the onset of Covid-19 we have moved to Zoom.
